Microsoft strengthens .rdp file protections in April 2026 Windows update

Microsoft introduced new protections in the April 2026 Windows security update that strengthen Remote Desktop (.rdp) file handling. The Remote Desktop Connection app will show stronger warning dialogs with remote-system details and require users to explicitly review requests to share local resources (drives, clipboard); Microsoft also noted digital signatures do not guarantee safety and may deprecate older connection settings in future updates.
