Russian drone strikes damaged Kyiv data centers and telecommunications infrastructure this week, and NetBlocks said at least four internet providers serving Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine saw partial connectivity losses. Ukraine’s digital ministry said about 100,000 households in Kyiv and the region had internet problems after the attack.
The outage spread because the sites held core networking gear for multiple providers, not just one network. Utels said one data center with its core equipment lost power; Pautina said several infrastructure sites and communications lines were hit; Crazy Network tied its outages to a strike on a central internet traffic exchange facility. When shared routing, power, or interconnect hardware sits in the same place, damage to one facility can knock out several ISPs at once.
That makes the blast radius a regional connectivity problem, not a single-carrier outage, and it leaves recovery tied to the damaged site itself. For operators and planners who depend on colocated exchange points or shared data centers, the exposure is the physical dependency that remains after any one provider restores its own network.
