GitGuardian found 29 million hardcoded secrets leaked in 2025, a 34% year-over-year increase. Most of the growth came from AI-related integrations and AI-assisted code generation; AI-tied leaks rose about 81% and LLM infrastructure categories saw the largest jumps. Internal repositories are far more likely to contain high-value credentials than public repos, expanding enterprise attack surfaces and outpacing remediation.
