Entra ID smette di trattare SMS e voice come un'alternativa stabile e li trasforma in una soluzione da migrare. Il punto non è solo l'adozione dei passkeys: da settembre 2026 il percorso di accesso si impone da sé, e chi resta su questi fattori eredita anche la relazione con il carrier, i costi e gli obblighi di compliance.
Microsoft farà dei passkeys l'esperienza di autenticazione predefinita dal 1° settembre 2026, con registrazione automatica per gli utenti che hanno SMS o voice abilitati. Dal 1° febbraio 2027, chi usa ancora SMS o voice dovrà registrare un passkey prima del sign-in; il 30 ottobre 2026 gli amministratori potranno scegliere e configurare un provider telecom supportato tramite Microsoft Security Store, e la delivery nativa Microsoft per SMS e voice sarà ritirata.
Per i team IAM la conseguenza è operativa: la gestione dell'autenticazione esce dal solo perimetro Microsoft e diventa anche un problema di procurement e di copertura contrattuale. Dove SMS o voice restano necessari per vincoli normativi o tecnici, il controllo del servizio passa a provider terzi e i costi associati restano a carico del cliente.
