Il DOJ e l'FBI hanno sequestrato i domini di NightmareStresser, uno dei booter DDoS-for-hire più grandi e longevi, con quasi 1 milione di utenti e una capacità di 3.000-4.000 attacchi l'ora. La misura interrompe una piattaforma centrale di Operation PowerOFF, ma non elimina il mercato che l'ha resa utile.
NightmareStresser funzionava come un pannello pronto all'uso: chi pagava poteva lanciare flood contro un bersaglio senza gestire in proprio l'infrastruttura. Togliere il sito taglia l'accesso alla vetrina, ma la capacità di attacco può migrare verso servizi più piccoli o verso botnet già disponibili.
Per chi osserva l'ecosistema DDoS, il punto non è il singolo sequestro ma lo spostamento della pressione. Un booter centralizzato in meno riduce un nodo importante, però il volume può riemergere altrove se la domanda trova subito un'altra offerta.
